4. Inspection cycle
The forks in use should be inspected in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 5 below at intervals of no more than 12 months or once they are found to be defective or permanently deformed (please contact Cascade for special gauges). Fork forks used under severe working conditions need to be inspected more frequently.
5. Check
5.1 The forks should be carefully inspected by trained personnel to find out whether there are damages, failures, and deformations that affect safe use. If any of the above-mentioned defects occurs in the fork, it must be discontinued. After repairing and testing in accordance with the requirements of 6.2, it can be put into use only after meeting the requirements.
5.2 Surface cracks
The forks should be inspected visually, and if necessary, non-destructive testing methods should be used to check for cracks. Special attention should be paid to the fork root, upper hook, and lower hook (including its connection with the vertical section). If there is a crack on the surface of the fork, it must be stopped.
5.3 Fork tip height difference
When a set of forks are installed on the fork frame, the height difference between the two fork tips should be checked. If the fork tip height difference exceeds 3% of the length of the horizontal section or the value recommended by the forklift manufacturer, the group of forks must be stopped.
The forks of this group shall not be put into use before necessary adjustments (see 6.1) and tests in accordance with 6.2 are carried out.
5.4 Position lock
It should be ensured that the positioning lock is in good maintenance and normal working condition in the original position. If any malfunction is found, the fork must be stopped before a good repair.
5.5 Marking clarity
The fork mark should meet the requirements of GB/T 5182. If the mark is not clear, the fork must be stopped.
5.6 Wear of forks
5.6.1 Horizontal and vertical sections of forks
The level of wear of the horizontal and vertical sections of the forks should be checked, especially the roots of the forks.
If the thickness of the horizontal and vertical sections of the fork is reduced to 90% of the design thickness of the fork, or the minimum thickness specified by the fork manufacturer, the fork must be stopped.
5.6.2 Installation of forks
The load bearing surface of the upper hook of the fork and the positioning surface of the upper and lower hooks should be inspected for wear, squeeze and other local deformations. If these defects are obvious and the gap between the fork and the fork frame becomes too large, the fork must be stopped. For other installation forms, similar inspections should also be carried out.
